One of my special interests is in the field of Mind Body Healing as it applies to therapeutic clinical Hypnosis. Beliefs can be extremely powerful when it comes to the way in which our bodies heal or don’t heal. The meaning that we attach to ailments and their associated treatments can either keep us stuck, or conversely they can propel us towards healing and optimum health and well-being.

I believe that we are Minds with bodies rather than Bodies with minds. Consequently, my approach to assisting people to heal themselves is from this premise. Pictures, images and symbols play an important role because they are the language of the subconscious mind. So, it follows that holding appropriate positive thoughts and images in our minds, can affect our physiology in a positive way. As a result, it is possible to help ourselves towards a quicker recovery from an illness or post surgery.

Hypnotherapy is one of the quickest and also one of the most effective ways to create lasting change.

Hypnosis and Suggestion

For these changes to take place, they need to happen within the subconscious mind. Because this is where our automatic patterns of behaviour, habits and ‘past programming’ exist. Everything that we have ever seen, heard, experienced or learned, is also stored within the subconscious mind. When a person is experiencing the state of hypnosis, the conscious critical mind becomes more passive, and the subconscious mind becomes much more dominant and hence more open to the suggestions of the hypnotherapist.

Through the application of Hypnotherapy or clinical hypnosis, appropriate helpful suggestions and ideas are given to you while you are experiencing the ‘hypnotic trance’. The Hypnotherapist structures these suggestions and ideas so as to help you to achieve your desired outcome or positive change. These suggestions may be in the form of direct suggestions, indirect suggestions, imagery and symbols. Hypnosis is a completely natural state of consciousness in which we all enter into, in fact many times a day. Whenever we are concentrating with great interest ie: working at the computer, watching a good movie, driving over familiar roads or on long trips, or maybe just daydreaming. All of these, are examples of naturally occurring hypnosis.
