After graduating as a newly certified Hypnotherapist in 1997, I was fortunate to be able to complete further Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy training with one of the worlds most respected masters of Hypnotherapy – The late Gil Boyne. Sadly, he passed away in 2010 at the age of 85 years. Gil had an immense influence in the promotion of Hypnotherapy internationally. He became a powerful political advocate and spokesperson for the ‘free and open practice of Hypnotherapy’. He was also successful in defeating over 44 restrictive bills in courts throughout the US. In 1980, Gil was successful in spearheading a campaign to oppose restrictive legislation of Hypnotherapy in Australia.
Gil Boyne achieved a reputation as one of the world’s foremost teachers of the theory and application of Hypnotherapy. Furthermore, he trained some 15,000 hypnotherapists from around the world. He was once known as the ‘Hypnotherapist to the Stars’ because of his work with people such as Sylvester Stallone, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton.
Transforming Therapy
Gil authored the book ‘Transforming Therapy’ which he wrote primarily for the student, teacher and practitioner of Hypnotherapy. This book quickly became a ‘must have’ by many professional hypnotherapist’s because of it’s radically different but extremely effective approach to helping people. I particularly like the way Gil described his work as ” A mystical art based on a spiritual philosophy, utilising the phenomena of trance for direct access to the deeper intelligence of the Spirit”.
I observed Gil first hand, demonstrating hypnotherapy with his unique and powerful yet compassionate approach. Watching the transformation after the therapy session had concluded was both astonishing and inspiring. It was professional training, techniques and insights that I will be forever grateful for. I continue to use and expand on these techniques in my own hypnotherapy practice here on the Sunshine Coast. Gil Boyne’s Obituary can be found here.
