Eczema, Psoriasis &
Hypnosis
Eczema is a very distressing skin condition which can cause a person who suffers from
it, great deal of discomfort. It is more common in children, and most people gradually grow out of it as they get
older. For some people, however, eczema - which is essentially an allergic reaction - can continue to be a
recurring problem through into adulthood.
The most common medical treatment is the application of Steroid creams. Although these can calm the irritation
temporarily, they do not cure it, nor do they prevent outbreaks from
occurring. Interestingly, hypnosis can achieve similar results because it has been clinically proven to reduce the
size and severity of allergic skin reactions. Most clinicians and researchers agree that stress affects the course
of dermatitis and eczema, and reducing stress levels can have a positive affect on the course of the disease.
Emotional factors have been shown to have a strong correlation with the onset of eczema and flare ups. Hypnotherapy
is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress, which is one of
the things that often triggers an outbreak of eczema.
Psoriasis is a skin
disorder disease that affects millions of people worldwide. There is no known permanent cure for it. The top layer
skin of Psoriasis is usually thicker and twice as thick as that of normal skin. Abnormal accelerated skin growth
occurs every 3 to 4 days instead of the normal 28 to 30 days growth cycle and this causes skin cells to accumulate
at the surface. The disease is unsightly and painful. Although the precise causes are unknown, it is known that
psoriasis can be triggered by emotional stress.
Treatments with an emphasis on controlling the symptoms of psoriasis are
common as there is no known cure. Ointments, phototherapy, and prescription drugs are often prescribed, but many
sufferers look to alternative therapy to help relieve their symptoms.
Many health conditions where emotional factors play a significant role
may be relieved by hypnosis. Why is this? Our emotional states may appear to arise autonomously, in a way
that is outside our control. However, while it is true that emotional response is not a conscious behavior,
it has been clearly demonstrated that the nature, intensity and duration of such responses can be modified
with hypnosis. The skin has been called the "mirror of the mind" and may well be the external manifestation
of an internal conflict.
Hypnosis can be helpful treating this disease when it has a psychosomatic aspect and is triggered by stress. In
dermatology, it has been seen that by giving appropriate suggestions during the hypnotic trance, a decrease of the
psoriasis has been observed.
Studies show a very high recovery rate: 38 % saw recovery with psychoanalysis after 600 sessions, 72% saw
recovery with behavior therapy after 22 sessions, and 93% saw recovery with hypnotherapy after 6
sessions.
